I had a photo session today at the Wisconsin fair that left me confused and bewildered.
The customers a young man and his father came in to be photographed as 1920 gangsters, Which in itself is not Unusual since that's what Im doing on this job.
They would not wear the color blue, they had to have red. It seems the color blue had somehow offended them in the past but since we were shooting in sepia tones mostly it really didn't make much difference.
As I was getting them posed and setting up the scene, the younger guy started yelling how he wanted this handgun, and that shotgun, and how he was a tough guy from Chicago That wouldn't wear the color blue. He could only wear red. He was what is known to science as a real asshole.
His father had to have the Tommy gun and a 45', he also was upset about the color Blue. He could only wear red. He said he would rather be dead! He also as a tough guy from Chicago .
He was what is known to science as a real asshole.
I know this is starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss poem, But bare with me.
The camera all set, poses all struck the session begun. "Ok give me a serious look"
I pressed the shutter button -Click- "that was great, Lets try one where your smiling" ,
Their mutual expressions remained un changed. I pressed the shutter button -Click-
"that was great, Lets try one where your smiling" , Their mutual expressions remained un changed. They simply refused to smile for the remainder of the session.
As I was finishing the final portrait of the young tough guy from Chicago that hated the color blue, I tried one more time to get him to smile " give me an smirk, an evil smile perhaps a mischievous grin" He replied " I never SMILE!
I replied " not even on your birthday?" He said "nope!" Click
"Ok thanks you can see your shots I'm a couple minutes"
At first I was pissed. After all I was just trying to do my job. But then I started to feel sorry for the young man known to science as a real asshole.
I had never taken a major stand against a color or a hue before, and I wondered what the color blue had done to them to make them feel that way.
Perhaps it was the blue in my necktie ? In any event I'm glad our guns are fake.
